Meet Helanka and Barb
We're Helanka and Barb, founders of heART Sisters Studio. Through our classes and events, we combine our passions for faith, art, and teaching to help women rediscover their artistic talents and deepen their faith. As artists and faith seekers ourselves, we understand the happiness that comes from connecting with other women who cherish creative expression and spiritual development. We are so glad you found us and invite you to join us on this journey of self-discovery and inspiration!
Hi! I'm Helanka!
Hi! I'm Barb!
I am deeply passionate about art and creativity as windows into experiencing God. Through mixed media—collage, art journaling, and the integration of Scripture with art—an invitation is offered to explore the Divine through spiritual creativity.
As a wife, mother, grandmother, and dog mom, I cherish the journey of nurturing both family and faith. Over three decades, I've devoted myself to women's ministries—leading retreats, Bible studies, and offering mentorships. I am also a certified Spiritual Director, walking alongside others in their spiritual journeys.
In 2020, my husband and I relocated to Tennessee, where I've been an instructor at the Monthaven Art Center, including the Healing Arts Program.
In 2024, alongside my dear friend, Barb Hegeman, a long-held dream became a reality with the birth of heART Sisters Studio—a creative oasis born from our shared vision and love for both art and spirituality.

Art, education, and faith have always been deep callings of my heart. As an artist and art teacher, I love both sharing the beauty of art and the joy that comes in creating it. I believe beauty lives within all of us and that in creating art, we are given the gift of touching the hand of the Divine.
My love of art led me to pursue a fine arts degree and a career as a graphic designer. In 2000, as a young mother, my love of teaching art inspired me to found private art schools where I taught drawing and painting to hundreds of children and adults over the next two decades.
In 2018, my husband and I became grandparents and moved to Tennessee, where I taught art classes at the Monthaven Arts Center and continue teaching art in my home studio.
My heart callings came full circle when, in 2024, my beautiful friend, Helanka Ralston, and I
founded heART Sisters Studio. Combining our love of faith and art and creating a special place for the two to merge and flourish is a true joy. We invite you to join us!
